Easter

by Tess Bundoc

Lenten Season comes with April showers

churches’ altars full of purple flowers

Filipinos do commemorate

Jesus’ death on Rome’s Jewish state.

Starting on Palm Sunday Lent does last

forty days at which the faithful fast.

Fridays are the days of fish – no meat.

Churches filled with penitents who meet

contemplating Jesus’ agony

dying on the cross for you and me.

Easter culminates the holy season:

Christ’s resurrection, our jubilation.
